The Stimulus Plan (the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) makes significant changes to tax credits for energy efficient upgrades.

- Gas, Propane or Oil Hot Water Boilers
- Geo-Thermal Heat Pumps
- Gas, Propane or Oil Water Heaters
- Electric Heat Pump Water Heaters
- Solar Water Heating

- The tax credit has been raised from 10% to 30%.
- The maximum credit has been raised from $500 to $1500.
- Improvements made in 2009 will be claimed on your 2009 taxes.
- Geo-thermal heat pumps are not subject to the $1,500 cap.
- Geo-thermal heat pump tax credits are in effect until 2016.
- New home construction can qualify for the tax credit for geothermal heat pumps.
